PEDEGOest I will go...and over we rolled!
All in slow motion. And there I lay...with this 60 lb. bike on top of me! As I was falling backward, all I could hear was Andrea's helpless cry, "Oooh, Mom!" A few scrapes and bruises later she pulled the bike off me.

We had had a lovely but long bike ride all along Camp River Rd., and stopped at Video Tonite, on Menzies St. for coffee at their outdoor cafe. After a much needed rest it was time to head home. I cycled across the IGA's parking lot and down--what I thought would be a gentle slope--on to the sidewalk on Yale Rd. No, no...! Not so gentle...I applied the brakes too hard and lost my balance. Thankfully the scrapes and bruises were not too serious.
Lesson learned: "Walk your bike, or safer yet, use the crossing!"
A few days earlier, Andrea and I had stopped at the Rosedale Community Traditional School--we managed to get in two bike rides. Michael had taken Zachary and Caleb to the school, where they made use of their tennis court and play ground.
Alex and Martha's son, Ryan, teaches shop at this school.

Caleb, "Grandma, did you take a picture?" "Did you take a picture?"
We needed a washroom break, a cold drink, and a little visit with Dorothy Fast.
Linda and Tony Klassen, Victor and Susan, me, Byron Neufeld, Andrea, Michael, Ron and Helga Pankonin.
Julia Klassen, Sierra and Levi Pankonin, Leah and Emma Klassen, Zachary and Caleb Goertzen Neufeld.

Cousins...growing up far too fast...!
...and acting far too "cool..."
Jacob Goertzen (100) and Michael (grandson) looking through photo albums.
Breakfast at the Ranchers with Andrea, Caleb, Byron, Brian Fawcett, me, Lydia Fawcett (Peter's sister) Michael, Zachary, and Peter taking the picture. No, that's not his new hairdo!...and acting far too "cool..."

After breakfast, a hike up Bridal Falls...
...and then lots of fun camping at Cultus Lk.
Coming in exhausted. Time for a little rest--the boys are very good swimmers.
...and guess what else they are good at...?
...and some more quiet time set aside for reading...
Sad to say...all good things must come to an end. A-Z drove back to Winnipeg and Michael flew back to Istanbul. The parting is always so hard...
What Peter said was so true, "Let's go camping at Oliver. Let's not feel sorry for ourselves."
We found a very nice spot at Desert Lake Campground. Quiet, clean, and sunny--mostly.
Went for a couple of nice bike rides.

Brian and Lydia came to see us for one night and the following evening we went to see Peter's brother and family in Penticton.
Too soon the week was over and then it was time to think about going back to Vancouver for round #4 of chemo. Monday, and it's back at the Douglas Guest House B&B for two nights. About a 10 min. walk to the hospital.
An afternoon coffee break...
A waiting room with a view...
Good news:
• CT scan showed shrinkage
• Lymphoma not hereditary
Came home to sad news:
• Our neighbours, Bill and Rita Oosterlaar's daughter, Diane (52), is in the Victoria hospital. They a found number of tumors in her brain about a month ago. Rita called last night from Victoria, saying that Diane was not responding any more. Pain is all around us...Our children should not be dying ahead of us! And I know that some of you have experienced that pain and the memory never leaves you.
Song that came to mind, "Be not dismayed whate'er betide, God will take care of you...We must keep believing that...
It's a slow day for me--not too much energy and not too much sleep the last few days, but that will soon change. Tonight should be better already.
Peter is back at work and I need to plan my schedule for September--some housework and some fun each day should do it.
Missing you,
Hilda
